Dorel Juvenile Group, Inc. To Conduct A Safety Recall For The Dreamride Child Restraint System.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that the Dorel Juvenile Group, Inc. (DJG) will conduct a safety recall campaign for certain rear-facing DreamRide child restraint systems. There are 1626 affected units. The affected systems are Model 22-001FSM, manufactured between December 1, 2003, and April 28, 2004. The restraint system did not perform correctly during a NHTSA-mandated compliance test. As a consequence, children in these types of systems may not be properly restrained, increasing the risk of injury during a crash. Owners are being instructed to discontinue use in the rear-facing mode and use the restraint only as a car bed Car beds allow small infants unable to ride in a semi-reclined position because of medical reasons to instead ride lying down. However, if an owner needs a rear-facing child restraint, DJG will provide a free replacement unit. For further information, or to receive a warning label for the system, owners should contact DJG’s toll-free number at 866-611-3022 Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM EST. Customers may also send a fax to 800-207-8182 or e-mail DJG: dreamride@djgusa.com. NHTSA also encourages parents who have not registered their child restraint system to do so as soon as possible so the manufacturer can contact owners of safety recalls in the future. Consumers with questions about this or any other safety recall campaign should call NHTSA’s toll-free Auto Safety Hotline (888-327-4236), or check NHTSA’s website, www.safercar.dot.gov.
