A Note From Our Author Lazy Days of Summer...Finally! I love the slower pace of summer. Gone are the days of rushing out the door to get to school on time and my kids seem so much more relaxed and happy (somehow I think this is because I’m more relaxed as well). We enjoy lingering at the breakfast table for as long as we want. There is a pond in front of our house and the other day we spent half the morning just looking for bullfrogs – we call it frogging – and giggling at the two squirrels that chase each other around our tree. Last night, Daddy took us camping outside under the stars and we made s’mores for our special stargazing treat. I actually think it’s a toss up who enjoys these times more, my kids or me. We also started a new tradition this year – picnic night at the beach. Every Thursday night we stop at the grocery store and everyone gets to choose one item for the menu. Needless to say this has led us to some pretty interesting picnic fare. During this sacred family time there are no play dates, no work commitments, just us. Even the kids are getting along! My point is that summer is much different once you have kids. When I was single, summer was all about parties and lying on the beach striving for the perfect tan. I’m not going to say that I don’t sometimes miss the after-work cocktail hour and summers at the beach with my girlfriends, but now summers have become something much more special. I have the opportunity to be a kid again and I love every minute of it. |
