DOREL JUVENILE GROUP USA DONATES PRODUCTS TO FAMILIES RECOVERING FROM HURRICANES KATRINA AND RITA Company Partners with the National Association of Children's Hospitals and Related Institutions to Meet Child Safety Needs of Thousands of Families
Dorel Juvenile Group USA, an operating subsidiary of Dorel Industries Inc. (TSX: DII.SV, DII.MV; NASDAQ: DIIB), announced today that in coordination withthe National Association of Children’s Hospitals and Related Institutions (NACHRI), nearly
$600,000 worth of juvenile products will be distributed to families recovering from recent
devastating hurricanes.
“We are all deeply inspired by the steadfast determination of these communities,” said Bruce Cazenave, President & CEO of Dorel Juvenile Group USA. “Lives are literally being rebuilt.
As one of the world’s leading manufacturers of juvenile products, we are in a unique position to
lend support to these communities as they begin the recovery process.”
As part of a larger effort to help parents create safe home environments and decrease
unintentional injuries among children, Dorel Juvenile Group USA, in collaboration with NACHRI,
is donating nearly 3,000 car seats, 2,500 strollers, 2,000 cribs and 2,000 portable feeding seats
to hospitals throughout the Gulf Coast region. In doing so, the Company expects to help
thousands of families by providing them with essential infant and toddler care products at a time
of great need.
Earlier this year, Dorel Juvenile Group USA and NACHRI launched Get on Board with Child
Safety—a nationwide child injury prevention campaign focused on educating parents and
caregivers on safety in and around the home and on the road.
“Through our national partnership with Dorel Juvenile Group USA, parents receive crucial
information about how to make their home and surrounding environments safer for children,”
said Lawrence McAndrews, president and CEO of NACHRI. “Receiving this sizable donation
of products allows children’s hospitals in the areas affected by the hurricanes to provide families
with safety products they urgently need and that can help prevent injuries. Children’s hospitals
thank Dorel Juvenile Group, USA for this heartfelt donation.”
Throughout October and November, volunteers from Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital in Baton Rouge, LA and Children’s Hospital of Austin, TX will facilitate distribution to families and other hospitals in affected areas. "We greatly appreciate the generosity of Dorel and NACHRI in responding to the needs of our communities. We will be working in conjunction with the Louisiana Office of Public Health, the Louisiana Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Safety Council LCA to distribute these products to those most in need," said Karen Ahmad RN, Our Lady of the Lake Children's Hospital's Pediatric Injury Prevention Coordinator.
