Formerly a journalist, Kimberlee Mitchell's investigative techniques were put to the test when her daughter Chloe began crawling around, what seemed like, a booby-trapped home. In her search for a local childproofing service, Mitchell found nothing in her own community.  Fortunately, a safety consultant from a Los Angeles-based childproofing service spoke in her Mommy & Me class that same week; however, Mitchell found his colorful horror stories terrifying. He made the group of new moms feel ignorant and neglectful for not yet considering childproofing even though the babies were merely 3 months old.   She immediately felt that his scare tactics and making young moms feel inept was not only cruel but an ineffective marketing strategy. He missed such a great opportunity to educate this captive audience. There had to be a better way to make safety a palatable part of parenting!

Her reporter instincts took over. She read everything she could get her hands on, researched all safety products, joined a host of industry associations, took CPR and first aid courses, attended child safety conventions and injury prevention trade association meetings, consulted with firemen and police officers, studied the practices of the leading childproofing businesses across the nation, dialoged with childproofing professionals across the nation/world and experimented with hundreds of different products in her home.  It took some time to find and assess the hundreds of consumer and professional child safety devices available, but she quickly gravitated toward her favorites based on what she used in her own household.  After Mitchell unearthed the industry's best products and installation practices she founded Boo Boo Busters, Inc. in 2002 and has since childproofed more than 3,000 homes in southern California.

Mitchell's experience in journalism affords her a unique ability as an on-air child safety expert for local and national television news media for comment on child related unintentional death and injury stories.   She also serves her community as a child safety expert guest speaker reaching hundreds of new and expecting parents each year about child safety at various organizations, schools, churches, businesses and hospitals.

"To this day, speaking to new moms is my favorite part of my work.  I love connecting as a peer first because I'll never forget when I was in their shoes - excited, wide eyed and hungry for information about embarking on the most important role of my lifetime- motherhood.  I truly feel like it's my mission to empower and arm parents with approachable and doable safety information in a way that doesn't make them push away due to the sometimes difficult to consider subject matter so that they can do what's needed to keep their children safe as they grow."

Mitchell's focus is to lower the injury and death statistics by way of home child safety education combined with childproofing.  Being able to offer professional childproofing services nationwide is her ultimate dream.  She lives in Southern California with her husband, daughter and son.
